ETEC Gesellschaft für technische Keramik mbH develops, manufactures and sells technical ceramics, particularly aluminium oxide, for industrial wear-protection solutions (standard products, custom linings and special components) and for ballistic protection of persons and vehicles. In the 2006 financial year the company achieved a sales increase of approximately 32 %, clearly outperforming the industry average for technical ceramics in Germany (+7.7 %). The company owns a US subsidiary (ETEC Technical Ceramics Corporation, Birmingham, Alabama) for North American sales in ballistic protection and the production/service company ETEC-Durawear Inc. at the same location. In R&D the first phase of the submicron materials project was completed in 2006; the company can produce materials with grain sizes of about 500 nm and plans to introduce these materials to the market in 2007.
