ifeu - Institut fuer Energie- und Umweltforschung Heidelberg gGmbH is a non-profit research company aimed at promoting science and research to preserve and improve natural and human environmental conditions, particularly resource conservation, climate protection and the protection of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. The company's purpose is to operate a research institute whose tasks include research projects, preparation of scientific expert opinions, consulting, information and training (including via internet and workshops), publications as well as events, seminars and workshops, and cooperation with national and international institutions. Financing is exclusively project-based; about two thirds of projects come from public funding (federal, state, EU) and about one third from the private sector; clients include municipalities, public authorities, companies and NGOs. Thematic focal areas include climate protection, energy transition, mobility, packaging, circular economy, bioeconomy and food and textile transformation, with the institute also deploying proprietary method and data development.
