Burgwedel Biotech GmbH, headquartered in Schwabenheim, is a German subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. and functions within the MSD group primarily as a contract manufacturer. The company develops, manufactures and distributes biotech pharmaceuticals, in particular animal health products such as veterinary vaccines and sera, and also produces vaccines for the human market (e.g. production of antigens and vaccine doses). All customer orders for animal medicines are recorded centrally at Intervet International B.V.; production is sold to Intervet at fixed transfer prices ("cost plus") and goods are shipped directly to customers. In the 2023 fiscal year the company generated revenues of EUR 90.1 million, which relate entirely to sales to affiliated companies.
