Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH produces and sells the 'HERRNHUTER® Advent and Christmas stars'; the sole shareholder is the Evangelische Brueder Unitaet - Herrnhuter Bruedergemeine (100%). Year-round production is organized in four product groups: traditional handmade paper stars (five sizes, seven base colours), plastic stars (six sizes, eight base colours), accessories (lighting, holders) and wooden design products; manufacturing takes place in Herrnhut and the production site in Oderwitz. Sales are made via selective retail partners and direct-to-consumer channels (online shop, Christmas markets, retail stores) and since 01.06.2021 the Comenius bookstores with publisher have been integrated into the company, expanding the business field. In fiscal 2023/2024 there were 189 permanent employees (as of 31.03.2024) and up to 229 seasonally; the company operates a visitor centre with demonstration workshop and gastronomy and recorded stable visitor numbers, while revenue increased by 2.09% (with a 0.80% contribution from the Comenius bookstore).
