MDE Dezentrale Energiesysteme GmbH, based in Augsburg, is an organizationally independent subsidiary of MTU Friedrichshafen GmbH within the Tognum group and serves as the competence center for stationary gas engine systems. It manufactures two gas engine system series: the Series 400 for outputs up to 400 kW and the Series 4000 up to 2000 kW; both series are used for decentralized generation of electricity, heat or cold and can be operated with natural, bio, sewage or landfill gas. Product development, assembly (for Series 400), project engineering, product support and spare parts supply are provided at the Augsburg site, while worldwide sales and service are handled via the MTU sales organization; the German market is served directly by MDE. In Germany MDE is market leader for environmentally friendly decentralized natural-gas plants in the 100–400 kW range and is also among the market leaders in the biogas segment within the same power range.
